I have run off and on for years. Mainly I got interested because of the local rite of spring the Derby. I was always asked by friends when I was going to run a marathon and my answer was always, never. I said I had no interest but if I ever did it would be the NYC marathon because I remember watching it on TV.
More forward to 2018 when for some reason I got an email to join the NYC lottery, which I did. Now to 2019 sitting at dinner when I checked my phone because of an email and I just said to my wife, "Shit." She asked what I said I think I just got an entry to the NYC marathon. She said a word worse than shit.
I was too out of shape and too bust to accomplish it last year so I deferred and now 30+ pounds lighter I'm training for the NYCM.
So at age 56 (or 57 or 58 or whenever we get to run it) I'll run my first marathon.
Thanks again for all the help in reaching this goal.

2020 will be my second NYC Marathon, I ran 2019 and made a PR, but this year i want to take it more calmly and enjoy the party.
Hopefully see you there!
BTW; I'm friends with Juan Piña, Mr Marathon Man, who is planning to run his 400th marathon in NYC 2020. Do you know him??

Comments: You’re amazing, Runar! As a young girl growing up in western NY state I recall watching clips and news of the first NYC Marathon. I followed it and all the greats of running through the 70s through today. I’ve always dreamt of one day running NY and this year I’m going to fulfill that dream. This will be my 5th marathon after many years of races. I haven’t run a marathon since Boston (for charity) in 2016. I’ve dealt with several injuries/setbacks since then. I admire your strength, commitment and generous assistance to all of us approaching this monumental race! Thank you so much for sharing your wealth of information, experience, and passion for NYCM! Take care, safe travels and happy training!
Admin reply: Thank You. And Good Luck to you!

Comments: Thank you for this great website. It really helped me prepare for the race. It was my first time running the NYC and, understandably I was a little nervous about it. The information you provided was spot on. I appreciate all the work you put into the website.
